It's been a rumour for a while that Canon will introduce its next "fullframe" DSLR in upcoming Photokina exhibition in the name of 7D or 3D or 5D Mark II. One of the initial rumours was in Oct 2007 [link] . At that time it look liked kind of silly and some posts mention the spec is based on the writer's imagination! CNet.com also mentioned this rumour first in Dec 2007 [link] and then in March 2008 [link] . An "unverified" picture of 7D with EF 24-105 L IS USM kit lens is also posted here [link] in Aug 2008. Rumours say it will have 15.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 29-point AF system, Dual Digic III processors, sensitivity of up to ISO 25,600, a 3-inch LCD, up to 6 frames per second for continuous shooting, and the same weather sealing as the 1D series with the price of $1899 !!!
So what do you think? Are rumours true or false? Do you have any info? The price for such fullframe (if there is!) is really tempting!
Yep. I just got some pretty good information that the Canon EOS 50D is running a completely new chipset - the DIGIC 4 and it has a basically a 920,000 pixel back for display. Thats a freakin' 3" LCD VGA monitor! The full frame camera will be using the chipset and a larger than a 15 mp CMOS censor!
Yes, the 50D isn't full frame - I'm missing some info in my post - but the replacement for the 5D will be naturally full frame. I hear some rumors about a 22.5 mp full frame .... 7D?
yeah...that's pretty exciting! but 50D is not fullframe. it's sensor size is 22.3*14.9 in compare with a fullframe of 36*24. So still it has a ration 1.6 ! I guess Canon will be waiting for its next fullframe.
Hehe, there's been so much speculation about this model... If it is a great sensor they put in and costs less than £2000, I'll probably get one. But it'll be two years till I can afford it, so for now we'll have to see!
With Nikons new found great models (like the D700) Canons answer will have to be pretty good...
